Bathore is the name of a neighborhood in the north of Tirana, across Tirana River. The area was densely informally urbanized after the ‘90s, becoming the biggest conurbation in Albania. People migrating from different parts of the country built their own houses from scratch, transforming agricultural land into urbanized land.
The new inhabitants of the area came mostly from rural areas, so their brought their rural economies with them, their agricultural activities and farming.
Using remittances as financial back-up for this migration flow and building of their new life in the capital, the people of Bathore and the case of Bathore itself represents a perfect example of “incremental investment”.
